Box Score The Maryville College men's soccer program posted a trio of goals in the first half and cruised to a 3-2 victory over Belhaven University in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Saturday evening.
In the first five minutes of the game, MC's Bret Thomas found Tim Baker who beat Belhaven keeper Josh Gates from three-yards out to give the Scots a 1-0 lead.
Twenty-five minutes later, Hayden Puryear took a Caleb Lucas pass and blasted a header from nine-yards out past Gates to put Maryville up 2-0.
The eventual game-winning goal cane at the 33:37 mark before the half when MC's Andrew Sullivan tallied an unassisted goal.
Belhaven got on the scoreboard at the 35-minute mark of the second half when Drew Lanke connected with Simeon Ekugwum to beat MC keeper Ryan Jorgensen.
The Blazers tallied another goal at the 50:45 mark when Nicolas Cornejo connected on a free kick from 19-yards out past new MC keeper Luke Wheat.
The Scots put an insurance goal on the board in the 81st minute when All-American Lucas deposited his second goal of the season as he dribbled through the left side of the box.
The loss moves Belhaven to 0-2-1 while Maryville advances to 3-1.
The Scots will prepare for their first USA South weekend when they host Ferrum College and Greensboro College next Friday and Sunday.
