Box Score Greensboro College's Carlos Barragan lifted a corner kick to Cole Watkins who connected the game-winning goal on a header into the upper right of the goal to give the Pride a 2-1 overtime USA South victory over Maryville College on Sunday evening.
The Pride (2-3, 1-0 USA South) got on the scoreboard first in the initial period. Just before the 17th minute, Scott Fatyol trapped a pass at the top of the box. After avoiding a Scot defender he blasted a 40' shot from the top of the box into the upper left of the goal past MC keeper Ryan Jorgensen.
Greensboro went to the half leading 1-0 out shooting the Scots 7-5 at intermission.
Maryville went on attack during the second half out shooting Greensboro 12-5.
Just before the 71st minute, Maryville College All-American Caleb Lucas dribbled through the left of the box and deposited his fourth goal of the season past Pride keeper Jaime Payamps.
In the third minute of overtime Watkins connected for the game-winner sending MC to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in USA South action.
Greensboro's Payamps earned the victory in net by turning away eight saves of Maryville's nine shots on goal. MC's Jorgensen suffered the loss in net after recording four saves.
Maryville will now prepare for a key USA South road challenge next weekend as they go to LaGrange College and Huntingdon College.
