Scots shutout by Emory in finale of Sonny Carter Invitational

The Maryville College men's soccer team fell to 1-1 on the season late Sunday evening falling to Emory University 2-0 in the final match of the 2016 Sonny Carter Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

The Eagles' Jason Andrejchak beat MC keeper Ryan Jorgensen for his first goal of the season with just 18-seconds before the intermission. At the half Emory had created nine shots, six on goal with Jorgensen turning away five blasts. The Scots' offense had eight shots, but none on goal lead by Caleb Lucas' three attacks. Emory's Jonathan Whyte earned the shutout in the first half.

 

Emory extended their lead in the first 13-minutes of the second half. Gabriel Vasconcelos hit Jason McCartney with a pass allowing McCartney to tally his first goal of the season at the 58:43 mark in the second half. The Eagles finished with 17 shots, 10 on-goal with MC taking 13 shots. The Scots were paced by Lucas' four attempts while John Rakmonberdiev and Thomas Palmer added three and two shots respectively.

 

The tournament hosts move to 1-1 on the season while the Scots fall to 1-1. MC will prepare for the next challenge next Friday when they travel to Covenant College to take on Millsaps and Belhaven for neutral facility matches.
