Box Score Maryville College advances to the USA South Semifinals on Sunday, as they defeated the No. 4-seeded LaGrange College Panthers, 7-0.
The Scots saw seven different players score goals against LaGrange, as they advance to face the No. 2-seeded Greensboro College Pride at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3.
MC advances, hoping for back-to-back USA South Athletic Conference crowns.
Maryville outshot the Panthers, 16-13 in Sunday's match to earn the lopsided tournament victory. MC won the battle of shots on goal, 9-8, as they scored on seven of their nine attempts.
Jameson Elmore led Maryville on the night, as the sophomore tallied both a goal and an assist in the win.
The Scots struck first in the seventh minute, as Cody VanKerschaever notched his sixth goal of the season. Jameson Elmore lobbed a pass from the left side, finding the senior in front of the net. VanKerschaever centered the frame with a one-touch blast from 8 yards out for a 1-0 MC lead.
Maryville struck again in the 18th minute. Keeper Bonner Brookes came out high in the box, as VanKerschaever pushed a pass to the top left of the box to Chris Fernandez. Fernadez touched a pass to Andrew Sullivan in the middle. Sullivan used a hard, low shot from 17 yards out past a backpedalling keeper for the 2-0 MC lead.
In the 27th minute, the Scots found their third goal, as Elmore got in the scoring column again. Randy Reichenberger pushed a pass forward on a breakaway, finding Elmore 17 yards out in front of the net. The LaGrange keeper again came out, as Elmore avoided him, pushing a right-footer into a wide open net for a 3-0 Scots' advantage.
Milan Card was fouled after he broke away into the box. Nate Long would take the ensuing penalty kick, placing it low into the left corner for his first goal of the season. In the 35th minute, Maryville would lead 4-0.
Michael Quatrano got in on the scoring in the 40th minute. Card cross a pass to the left post from the right side, as a LaGrange defender collected it. He couldn't clear it, as Quatrano placed a kick in the lower right for his sixth goal of the season. With 5 minutes left in the opening half, the Scots held a commanding lead, 5-0.
Maryville outshot the Panthers, 10-5, in the first half, as they posted six shots on goal to a trio from LaGrange. MC had two corners to none, as they were called for four offside penalties.
Johnny Rakhmonberdiev would add his 10th goal of the season with a 35-yard blast from the middle of the field. The ball was deflected on its way, as it fell in the lower right of the net, 6-0.
Bret Thomas tallied his third goal of the season in the 66th minute. The junior took a shot that was saved by Cory Aycock, as it deflected past him. Thomas collected the loose ball, finding the open net for a 7-0 win.
