Strambler' homer, Blackburn's hurling pushes Scots past Panthers, 11-0

Box Score

The Maryville College Scots used five LaGrange College errors to their advantage on Tuesday afternoon, as they downed the Panthers, 11-0, in five innings.

MC's Essence Strambler tallied her team-leading fourth homer run of the season, as five different Scots scored a pair of runs each.

Strambler's stellar season continued, as the sophomore left fielder holds a .471 batting average on the year. She leads the team in the category, while ranking third within the USA South. Strambler has 18 RBI – fourth in the conference – as her four homers rank second in the league. She went 2-for-3 in Tuesday's game with four RBI and a run scored, as she upped her .706 slugging percentage.

Nicole Blackburn moved to a perfect 3-0 on the year from the circle, as the junior hurler tossed a complete game shutout. She allowed just four hits in the game, while striking out four Panthers on the afternoon.

Maryville College opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. A Morgan Brewer double and an Essence Strambler groundout would put a runner on third, before a wild pitch plated the third baseman for the first run of the game. Rachel Taylor scored after being walked on a pair of errors that left Taylor Campbell on third. Alexus Murray tallied the first RBI of the game with a single through the right side to give the Scots a 3-0 lead early.

Maryville would match their first-inning efforts in the second, as well, playing a trio of runs. A single by Ashton Hayden and  another Panther error would put runners on second and third. White would score Hayden on a failed fielder's choice, as a double steal on the play pushed Brewer home, as well. Strambler notched an RBI with a single up the middle to score White from second to push the score to 6-0 in the Scots' favor.

The Scots kept it a theme of threes in the bottom of the fourth. An infield single by Hayden and a walk for Christina White put a pair on for the Scots. Strambler would tally her fourth RBI of the game with her fourth dinker of the season. The three-run show to left-center gave Maryville a 9-0 lead.

The inning would continue as Taylor drew a walk. Campbell's double clicked off the warning track, plating Taylor from first. A walk put a pair on, as Christen Torres' RBI single through the left side scored Campbell for a 11-0 Scots' win in five innings.

Maryville (10-6, 3-0 USA South) was led by Strambler's effort, as Hayden went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs. Brewer was 1-for-3 with two runs, as Campbell was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Taylor and White each scored a pair of runs, as Murray and Torres added an RBI each on one-hit afternoons.

LaGrange (7-14, 5-2) saw their four-hit attack scattered between four players.
