Box Score Maryville College moved to 2-1 in USA South Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon, as the Scots downed Greensboro College, 2-0.
MC rode goals from Randy Reichenberger and Bret Thomas in the match.
The Scots saw a stellar defensive effort from Nate Long, Ian Schomer and Ryan Jorgensen in order to preserve the shutout victory.
Maryville College would strike first in the 13th minute. Reichenberger stole the ball at midfield, dishing it off to the right side to Bralen Clouse. Clouse's pass back to Reichenberger at the top of the box allowed the senior to deposit it from 5 yards out past keeper Elmer Martinez. The Scots led 1-0 just 12:51 in.
The Scots found their second goal of the match in the 41st minute. Nate Long found Thomas at the top of the box with a long pass. Martinez came forward in the box, as Thomas slipped him to the left side. Thomas would load up, deflecting the ball off a defender into the lower left corner for a 2-0 Maryville lead at the break.
The Scots outshot Greensboro, 10-4, in the opening stanza. Maryville had six shots on goal, while each of the Pride's four attempts found frame in the physical first half.
MC's Austin Vinyard had three shots with one on goal. Reichenberger and Thomas matched each other with a pair of shots on goal and a score.
The two teams combined 16 fouls and a pair of yellow cards in the first 45 minutes, as that battle would only continue in the second half.
Maryville would finish the match with 16 fouls, as the Pride held 13. In all, five yellow cards were handed out.
MC (3-2, 2-1 USA South) was led by Vinyard who had four shots, while Chris Fernandez posted a trio of shots. Thomas and Reichenberger tallied goals on two shots each, as Jorgensen turned away each of the six shots he saw.
In all, Maryville tallied 16 shots with seven on frame.
Greensboro College (2-2, 0-1) Darli Mihindou lead the way, as he posted four of the Pride's 12 shots.
