Box Score Maryville College guards JR Sanders and Kevin Chong combined for eight three-pointers while the Scots defense limited Berea College to only a 35-percent shooting effort as MC defeated the Mountaineers in Berea, Kentucky on Wednesday evening by the score of 80-73.
Brice Martin, Kevin Chong, and JR Sanders combined for a 13-for-21 shooting effort in the first half for 34 points helping the Scots to a 46-36 advantage at the half. The trio deposited 7-of-11 three-pointers connecting on over 63-percent of their long-range attacks.
In the second half, MC's Kordell Kah went 2-for-5 from the floor while adding a 6-for-7 effort from the charity stripe for 11 points. Kah's three-pointer with three-minutes remaining pushed the Scots' advantage to 76-68. Key free throws by Kah, Felix Uadiale, and Chong sealed the hard-fought USA South road victory for Maryville.
Berea (9-13, 5-10 USA South) had five players post double-digit scoring led by Torell Carter's 15 points. Quae Charlton added 14 while Isaac Caudill finished with 13 points. Terique Miller tossed in 11 points while Kevion Hudson contributed 10 points off the bench. Carter paced the Mountaineers on the boards with seven rebounds.
Maryville (7-15, 6-9 USA South) finished hitting 43-percent from the floor with four players dropping double-digit scoring. JR Sanders paced MC with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting while going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. Kevin Chong finished with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting while depositing 4-of-7 shots from the perimeter. Chong paced the Scots on the boards with seven rebounds. Kordell Kah added 17 points after sinking 10-of-13 free throws. Brice Martin added a dozen points on 5-of-11 shooting.
"I am really proud of our effort on the road," stated Maryville College Head Coach Raul Placeres. "We executed the game plan. We had a great start and we were able to finish it with clutch free-throw shooting. Having four guys in double figures is the key to consistent success in the college game. I am very proud of my guys."
Maryville will prepare to host USA South foe Brevard College on Saturday, February 15 at 4:00 p.m. The Scots will host "Senior Day" to honor the career of senior point guard Joshua Brooks.
