Box Score Maryville College Softball moved to 4-1 on Sunday afternoon, as the Scots combined for a dozen hits in an 8-5 win over Methodist University.
The Scots' Christina White led the way with a 2-for-4 effort, as she added two RBI and two runs. Additionally, Courtney Deck, Jazmine Geary, Reid Ballard and Ashton Hayden had two-hit days for MC, while Deck and Kennedy Richardson scored a pair of runs each.
Maryville College got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning, as White began the game with a triple to left-center. Ballard would score the leadoff hitter with an RBI single to left-center, giving MC a 1-0 lead after one inning.
The Scots set Methodist down in order in the top of second – their second such effort of the game. Maryville added to their advantage in the bottom half of the inning, as Richardson singled and stole second to lead off the inning. Hayden singled to the pitcher to put runners on the corners, before the speedster stole second. Methodist tried to catch Richardson at third on the play, as a throwing error scored the left fielder for a 2-0 MC lead.
The Scots scored their third run of the game after their third-straight three-up, three-down inning on defense. Geary would lead the offensive half of the inning off with a double to center, before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Ballard would quickly score her with an RBI single to center, giving the Orange and Garnet at 3-0 lead through three innings.
Methodist got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out rally. A walk and a single to left put runners on, before an MC error allowed Brittany Jones to score from second. The Monarchs cut into the lead, 3-1.
Maryville made that run up in the bottom of the fifth, using a Methodist error. Deck doubled to left, before Geary reached on a dropped fly to right. Deck scored from second on the play to make it a 4-1 score.
MC added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a commanding 8-1 advantage. Richardson reached on an error, before promptly stealing second. Hayden singled through the right side, putting a pair of runners in scoring position with her second steal of the day. White earned two RBI with a single to left-center, before Deck singled to short. Geary doubled to right, plating White, before a fielding error allowed Deck to score from third, 8-1.
Methodist would have one last rally in the top of the seventh, plating four runs. A walk and a pair of singles juiced the bases, before Carleigh Haywood's triple to left-center cleared them. An error allowed Haywood to score, before Maryville used a center field to second base double play to end the game, 8-5.
Maryville (4-1) was paced by White, as Geary went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Ballard was 2-for-4 with two RBI, as Deck went 2-for-4 with two runs. Hayden was 2-for-3 with a run, while Richardson tallied a 1-for-3 effort with a pair of runs. Morgan Brewer went 1-for-4.
Danielle Abell moved to 2-0 on the season with a complete game. She allowed six hits and just three earned runs, while she struck out a trio of Monarchs.
Methodist (7-6) saw their six-hit attack spread across six players, as Haywood went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run. Jones scored two runs without a hit, while Jordyn Propst went 1-for-1.
