Box Score Henry Sinks LaGrange; MC Now 5-0 in Overtime
LaGRANGE, Ga. – Ndubueze Henry scored the overtime goal that lifted 10-man Maryville to an important 3-2 victory at LaGrange on Saturday.
With the win, Maryville improved to 9-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in USA South play – good for solo first place a third of the way through the conference season. LaGrange dropped to 4-3-0 and 1-1-0.
The Scots went a man down when Alonzo Angel was sent off in the 78th minute with Maryville leading 2-1. Less than three minutes later, LaGrange's Blake Webb tied things up by scoring his third of the year.
But the Scots regrouped and pushed the game into overtime.
And no team wants to challenge Maryville in a golden-goal situation.
The Scots improved to 5-0 in overtime games this season, including a remarkable 4-0 in the second overtime session.
"While we didn't play our best today against a very good LaGrange team, we did find a way to win," Maryville head coach Pepe Fernandez said. "Finishing in OT with a man down on the road is obviously difficult. It's great to see that this team manages to find a way to get the job done."
Vinyard Strikes Twice
LaGrange opened the scoring in the sixth minute but then Maryville's Austin Vinyard netted goals in each half to push the Scots in front. Vinyard leads the team with eight goals for the season.
The host Panthers tied it after the Maryville red card, but then Henry was the man on the spot once again. That's three game-winners out of his five goals scored this season.
Henry's 10 assists still lead all of Division III.
The Scots play again Wednesday night at Covenant in a 7 o'clock start.
