A pair of second-half goals lift Berry past Maryville 2-0

A pair of second-half goals lifted Berry College past Maryville by the score of 2-0 in men's soccer Wednesday evening in Rome, Georgia.

The Scots battled to a scoreless tie in the first half. The Vikings outshot Maryville 8-1 with five shots on frame each turned away by MC keeper Luke Semann.

In the 72nd minute during the second half, Berry's Josh Pruett deposited a penalty kick for the eventual game-winner.

The Vikings recorded an insurance goal two minutes later when Zachary Ernst tallied an unassisted goal.

Berry finished the match with 18 total attacks with 10 blasts on goal. MC's Semann finished with 10 saves. MC's offense was paced by Caleb Platillero and Jared Tomson who combined for four of the Scots seven shots.

The Scots fall to 0-3 on the season while Berry advances to 1-0-1 after a season-opening tie against Covenant College.

Maryville will return to action on Saturday, February 27th when they host Brevard College in a USA South challenge.
