The Maryville College softball program fell to 1-7 on the season after dropping a doubleheader to Emory & Henry College by the scores of 8-6 and 6-2 on Saturday afternoon in Emory, Virginia.
In the series opener, second baseman Taylor Campbell blasted her 20th career homerun going 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI while catcher Reid Ballard added two hits with a key RBI in the third inning.
The Wasps (5-0) countered MC's four-hit attack with 11 hits of Scots' starter Danielle Abell including a trio of home runs.
Emory & Henry's Cameron Derr earned the win in the circle after striking out 15 Scots.
In the nightcap, Maryville's bats were silenced by Wasp hurler Alex Bruan. Braun struck out a dozen while allowing only a pair of earned runs. Five Scots recorded hits including Taylor Campbell, Reid Ballard, MiCayla Clark, Morgan Brewer, and Amaya Goodloe. Goodloe and Courtney Deck posted the pair of RBI for MC's offense.
Kennedy Henry suffered the loss in the circle after allowing 10 hits and six earned runs.
The win advances Emory & Henry to 6-0 on the season.
The Scots will return to the field on Sunday with an exhibition doubleheader as they host Cleveland State Community College on-campus beginning at 1:00.
