Demorest, Ga. – The Scots recorded their first CCS loss this season, falling to Piedmont 3-0. This is just the second match this year that Maryville has failed to score at least one goal.
The Scots had plenty of opportunities, outshooting the Lions 21-13, but they were unable to find the net. While Maryville had the shot advantage, the Lions were more efficient with both teams putting the same number of shots on goal (7).
Piedmont took the lead in the 28th minute on a goal from Savannah Jerome, assisted by Kaylee King. This marks Jerome's second goal of the season.
The Lions extended their lead just 10 minutes later off the foot of Madi Gallarelli. She collected the rebound off a blocked shot by Abby Ryan before finding the net with a shot of her own to make it 2-0 in the 38th minute. Ryan recorded an assist on the play.
In the Second half, Maryville outshot Piedmont 15-7 but was unable to capitalize on the shot advantage. The Lions would extend their lead once more when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 78th minute. Abby Judge would take the kick, shooting it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Sierra Lee led the Scots with seven shots while
Chloe Chase,
Macy Lindsey,
Hailey Cartt,
Hannah Smoot, and
Delaney Muldoon each put up multiple shots of their own.
The Scots are now 8-4-3 on the season and 4-1-1 in conference play. They return home on Wednesday, for their Senior Night matchup against CCS foe Berea at 7 p.m.
