Maryville Pushes Win Streak to 6

Scots Sweep Belhaven, Piedmont

JACKSON, Miss. – Maryville jump-started the second half of its conference season with a pair of 3-0 sweeps on Saturday.

The Scots knocked off host Belhaven and then took down Piedmont to raise their winning streak to six matches. All six wins have been by 3-0 scores.

Maryville won the Belhaven match by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 29-27. It was a 3-2 nail-biter against the Blazers back on Sept. 24 in Maryville.

Against Piedmont, the scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-17. The Scots have won eight in a row against the Lions and 12 of the last 13.

In the opening match, Amii Ingalls led the way with her eighth double-double of the season, which is one behind Meredith Bonee for team honors. Ingalls posted 13 kills and 10 digs. Landry Frisch just missed a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs, as did Isabella Samson with nine and nine.

The final set was the most competitive, with nine ties and five lead changes. Belhaven grabbed leads of 3-0 and 6-3. It was still 12-10 Blazers when Maryville scored five in a row, capped by a pair of service aces from Hannah Potts. Belhaven scored four straight to go back in front 21-19, only to see Maryville flip the script one more time on another Potts service ace for 24-23. Belhaven served with match points at 26-25 and 27-26, but Reese Bailey had a kill and then Frisch closed it out with a kill for the Scots.

Piedmont played Maryville tough, but the Scots seems to get stronger as the match progressed. Over the three sets, there were just five ties and three lead changes. The majority of those happened in the third set, but that was early and Maryville won by its widest margin in Set 3.

The Scots are now 15-8 overall and 7-3 in the conference. That has Maryville in fourth place behind Covenant (10-1), Berea (9-2) and Huntingdon (8-2). The Scots host Berea on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
