Maryville Back on Track

First Meet in Four Decades a Welcomed Return

Complete Results

SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Maryville's return to the varsity track and field ranks after nearly a 40-year hiatus could not have gone much better.

Clarence McLean picked up a pair of wins in the 55m and 200m dashes after Maryville's depth showed itself in the field events. McLean broke the tape in 6.66 seconds in the former race and 23.98 in the latter to claim top honors.

"I was excited and pleased with our effort and performances," Scots Director of Track & Field Kunle Lawson said. "As with anything new, there will be some growing pains. But we know where we stand and have a better idea of what we need to do to improve.

"I'm proud of everyone for this step forward in our program."

Joshua Panetta was the solo competitor in both the weight throw (8.71 meters) and shot put (6.00 meters), while Jacob Ball (5.79 meters), McLean (5.58 meters) and Elvin Wagner (5.39 meters) finished 1-2-3 in the long jump for the Scots.

Jacob Ball finished third in the 55m dash with a clocking of 7.13, just ahead of teammate Ty Hylwa in 7.21. Ball also cleared 3.19 meters as the solo competitor in the pole vault, while Hylwa clocked 26.37 seconds in the 200m to finish sixth.

The Scots return to Sewanee on Jan. 28 for the Tiger Indoor Invitational.
