2022-23 Schedule
Â
MARYVILLE – Four top-tier tournaments make the 2022-23 Maryville men's basketball schedule an eye-opener for sure.
Â
The Scots begin their season Nov. 9 at home against Sewanee, but then the road beckons for the first of back-to-back tourneys. Maryville plays at Mount Union's M-Club Classic in Alliance, Ohio, on Nov. 11-12, followed by a trip one week later to Crawfordsville, Indiana, for the Great Lakes Invitational. This year's host is Wabash, which last year advanced to the national semifinals.
Â
A stretch of four nonconference matchups follows – three of those at home – but then it's back into tourney play with the Daytona Classic in Florida on Dec. 21-22 featuring both the Maryville men's and women's teams. The Randolph-Macon Tournament hosted Dec. 29-30 by the defending NCAA champions wraps up the pre-conference portion of the slate.
Â
Maryville then debuts in the new Collegiate Conference of the South at rival Covenant on Jan. 3. The Scots follow with five home games in a row until heading to new league foe Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi, on Jan. 28. Covenant visits for the final home game on Feb. 7.
Â
"Our goal in creating a schedule like this was to test our team while developing opportunities to learn and grow," Scots head coach
Raul Placeres said. "This one has more than its fair share of challenges, but my hope is that by season's end, we are prepared to play anyone and face anything a team tries to throw at us."
Â
This year's senior class is being recognized Jan. 21 against Berea in the last weekend home date. The CCS scheduling format calls for doubleheaders for the men's and women's teams, except for Maryville's games against Agnes Scott and Wesleyan.
