RALEIGH, N.C. – It was more of the same for the Scots on Day 2 of the Meredith/William Peace Tournament as they split the doubleheader for the second day in a row.
Maryville (6-3) took the first match against Pfeiffer 3-0 but was unable to fend off undefeated William Peace and lost 3-0 to the Pacers. Maryville's two losses on the weekend came to Meredith on the Avenging Angels' home floor and to 9-0 William Peace on the Pacers' home floor.
In the opening match against Pfeiffer, the Scots swept all three sets winning 25-16, 25-23, and 28-26. They posted 45 kills and attacked at .245 compared to 29 kills and a .191 attack from the Falcons.
Maryville won the first match with a balanced offensive output that saw five different players record five or more kills.
Amii Ingalls and
Isabella Samson led the way with 11 kills apiece and each posted a double-double with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Landry Frisch just missed a double-double, posting nine kills and 13 digs.
While Maryville maintained the lead for the entirety of the first set, they overcame a deficit of 14-6 in the second set, tying it at 20-20. From there, the match saw three lead changes and two ties as the Scots came away with the 25-23 win.
In the nightcap, William Peace maintained its undefeated record with a score line of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-15.
The Scots recorded 28 kills and attacked at just .080 compared to .357 from the Pacers. Samson led Maryville with nine kills while Ingalls recorded 13 digs.
After splitting the weekend 2-2 in Raleigh, the Scots return home next weekend for the Maryville College Invitational. They meet Marietta on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and then Transylvania on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., with Covenant also in town Saturday for a pair of matches. Three matches are scheduled for Saturday and two for Sunday, beginning at noon each day.
