Berry Tops Maryville

Scots on Short End of 2-0 Decision

ROME, Ga. – Berry put a goal on the board in each half to hand Maryville a 2-0 defeat in nonconference action Friday afternoon.

Jacob Antoine scored a pair of unassisted goals for the Vikings, one in the 16th minute and then on a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Antoine now has scored three of Berry's five goals on the young season.

William Bryan fired three shots to lead the Maryville offense, with one of those shots on target. Jorge Graniel contributed two shots, with one on the net. Ndubueze Henry and Adrian Boyle had the other Maryville shots on goal.

Berry finished with a 14-8 margin in shot attempts and a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Vikings posted a 7-0 edge in corners in improving to 2-0-3 on the season. Maryville is now 0-3-2.

Goalkeeper Mykal Manfred posted three saves.

Friday's decision avenged last year's 2-1 double-overtime victory by the Scots at the UT Soccer Complex in Knoxville.

Maryville is back in action Sunday in the second match of a women's-men's doubleheader at Birmingham-Southern. The women's match begins at noon Central time, with the men starting at approximately 2:30 p.m.
