MARYVILLE – Transylvania completed a weekend sweep at the Maryville Volleyball Invitational with a 3-0 triumph over the host Scots on Sunday afternoon.
The set scores were 25-11, 25-14 and 25-16.
Maryville held early leads in all three sets but could not maintain the momentum. There were three ties in Set 1 and four each in the next two sets, but Maryville's latest tie was 7-7 in the second.
Transy didn't drop a set during the two days, knocking off Covenant on Saturday and then sweeping Marietta and Maryville on Sunday. Transylvania improved to 9-4 after its seventh straight victory and eighth in the last nine matches.
Isabella Samson completed a fine tournament for the Scots. One day after posting a career-high 19 kills in a five-set match against Marietta, the senior outside hitter blasted 10 more kills in Sunday's three-setter. She has a team-leading 107 kills for the season and now has 460 for her career.
Samson added 13 digs for her second double-double of the weekend and third in the last four matches.
Ally Sokolow pitched in nine digs Sunday and 29 for the weekend.
Next up for Maryville is the debut of Collegiate Conference of the South play. The Scots host a tri-match Saturday, taking on Belhaven at noon and Piedmont at 4 p.m. Those two squads play the in-between match.
