MARYVILLE – An entertaining match under sunny skies left both teams a little disappointed after Maryville and Greensboro played to a 0-0 draw.
The Scots tied all three matches this week, finishing 0-0 against Rhodes and 1-1 versus LaGrange before Sunday's result. Maryville is now 0-4-5, while Greensboro slides to 1-5-3.
Maryville's final shot of the day looked destined to break the deadlock in the 75th minute, but
Jace Burchfiel's attempt from just inside the penalty box clanked off the post and went wide left.
Shots were 11-11 but possession time favored Maryville by 56 percent to 44 percent. The Scots played their way to a 5-2 edge in corner kicks but were whistled for six offside calls.
Mykal Manfred did all he could to help the Scots find the win column, making two saves to cap a terrific week in goal. The Gallatin senior allowed just one goal in 270 minutes of action over three matches. Burchfiel was one of four Scots with two shot attempts, joining
Craig McIlwraith,
Ndubueze Henry and
Collin Combs.
Maryville is back in action Saturday against Belhaven (3-3-3, 0-1-0 CCS). The Blazers lost 4-2 at home Saturday to Berea in their CCS opener.
