Scots Begin Fall Tennis Schedule

Maryville Drops 9-0 Decision to Emory & Henry

MARYVILLE – Maryville opened the dual match portion of its fall schedule with a 9-0 home defeat at the hands of Emory & Henry.

Katelyn Cook and Courtlyn Walsh went down 8-5 in doubles, with Abby Diggs and Elizabeth Shwaiko suffering an 8-6 decision.

In singles, Cook played at the No. 1 position and lost to Emory & Henry's Emma Charlton by a 6-0, 6-3 count. Walsh at No. 2 lost to Nina Williams, 6-2 and 6-3. Diggs played No. 3 singles and went down 6-2, 7-5 to Katie Bradley, while Shwaiko lost in straight sets to Natalie Bergman.

"It was great to see many of our freshmen get their first college experience in what was a pretty loud environment down on the courts," Maryville head coach Doug Corbett said. "Many of them rose to the challenge of playing a team a level higher than us.

"There is a lot to learn with our young team, but we left the match encouraged about our overall performance."

The Scots were limited to four team members and were forced to forfeit one doubles match and two on the singles side.

Maryville's final competition of the fall is a dual match Oct. 5 at Johnson.
