Maryville Drops Match Against Johnson 6-3

MC Looks Ahead to Brevard Invitational

MARYVILLE – Playing at home for the only time this fall, Maryville fell to NAIA Opponent Johnson 6-3 at the MC Tennis Courts Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson had the upper hand in doubles play to begin the match, taking two of three from the Scots. Maryville's lone point from duos play came on the No. 2 court as Jonathan Crane and Gabriel Villalonga Serra won 8-6.

"We played well at times on just about all of the courts," Maryville head coach Doug Corbett said. "I was happy to see Briel and JC get the win at No. 2 doubles today. It was their best performance, including practice."

Maryville's two singles victories came on the No. 5 and No. 6 courts. Seth Green won at No. 5 by scores of 6-3, 4-7, 1-0 (10-7). Kaleb Burke on the No. 6 court also went three sets, winning 4-6, 6-4, and 1-0 (10-8). Jackson Meyer and James Smith both took their respective matches to three sets as well before falling.

"Lots of close battles in singles," Corbett said. "James did a great job forcing a third set breaker and it was good to see us win a couple of tiebreaks after losing the first two. Thankfully, we have another week to get back to work before our first men's fall invite at Brevard."

The men have one more opportunity to play this fall, competing in the Brevard Invitational on October 27 and 28.
