HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Maryville dropped its opener of a three-match schedule in Hilton Head on Sunday, losing 7-2 to Cornell College.
The Scots won at No. 2 doubles behind
Eliza Cheshire and
Abby Diggs, who prevailed 8-4. They also took care of No. 1 singles with
Katelyn Cook claiming a terrific three-set victory by a 6-2, 0-6, 1-0 (10-7) score line. It was Cook's first singles win as a Maryville Scot.
"Cornell College had a pretty deep team," Maryville head coach
Doug Corbett said. "Katelyn got her first college singles win, so I am happy for her!
"We are improving as a group for sure, so we just need to stay together, stay positive and the wins eventually will follow."
The Scots are 0-6 on the season, while Cornell College improved to 7-8.
Maryville is back in action Tuesday against Western Connecticut State. Start time is 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Head Island Beach & Tennis Resort.
