HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Maryville picked up their first victory of the season on Tuesday, defeating Western Connecticut State 7-2 at the Hilton Head Island Beach & Tennis Resort.
The Scots swept the doubles portion of the match 3-0, with No. 1 duo
Katelyn Cook and
Elizabeth Shwaiko taking their match 8-3.
Eliza Cheshire and
Abby Diggs picked up an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles while
Mandy Webb and
Abby Smither closed out the sweep 8-3.
The Scots won four out of the six singles matchups on the day. At No. 1 singles was Cook, who picked up convincing victory, taking the first two sets by scores of 6-2, and 6-0.
Diggs picked up the win at No. 2 singles, winning a tough three-set matchup 6-1, 2-6, 10-8. Shwaiko picked up a victory at No. 3 singles as well.
MC's first loss came at No. 4 singles as Western Connecticut's Sophie Charbonneau took down
Eliza Cheshire 6-4, 6-3.
Abby Smither earned the win at No. 5 singles winning sets 6-4 and 6-3, before
Mandy Webb lost a tough matchup at No.6 singles, with scores of 7-5, 3-6, and 11-13
Maryville is back in action on Wednesday for its final spring break matchup in Hilton Head. The Scots face off against Stevenson at 8:30 a.m.
