ATLANTA – It was a season-high run total for Maryville on Tuesday as the Scots began their Spring Break trip to Georgia with a 13-5 victory over Rhodes.
The game was called in the sixth inning by the eight-run rule.
Five different Scots contributed two hits apiece:
- -- Brecca Williams was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, one batted in and a stolen base.
- -- Jenica Brown was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
- -- Paige Dickinson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two batted in.
- -- Ava Whitmire was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two driven in.
- -- and Annie Fowler was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two driven in.
Maryville scored in every inning but the fourth, and the Scots were able to shorten the game to six innings by plating five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
Megan Ackerman was the beneficiary of her teammates' offensive outburst. She pitched the first 5 and 1/3 innings, scattering nine hits and allowing four earned runs to pick up her second win of the season.
Bailey Myers and
Cierra Hudson also hit safely for Maryville, which missed by one base hit of tying its season high of 13 against Elmira.
The Scots, now 6-7, are back in action the next two days in single games against Emory. Start times on Wednesday and Thursday are 3 p.m. Emory enters at 9-4.
