Dickinson Does the Damage

Scots Blast Emory 10-1 Behind First-Year’s Two-Way Efforts

ATLANTA – Paige Dickinson pitched a complete game three-hitter and went 2-for-3 at the plate to help Maryville race past Emory 10-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Scots scored four times in the sixth inning to record a run-rule victory for the second day in a row. Maryville bounced Rhodes 13-5 on Tuesday.

Dickinson allowed one earned run over six innings to lift her record to 3-1. The six innings pitched was a season high for the first-year righthander. Her two hits at the plate upped her batting average to .320, third best on the team.

"Paige worked hard in the circle and pitched out of some big spots," Maryville head coach Jill Moore said. "Our defense rose to every challenge they were handed.

"We executed our plan very well today. Offensively, we adjusted early and attacked the zone with runners in scoring position. We did a great job top to bottom scoring runs. It was a terrific team win."

The Scots belted a season-high 14 hits against Emory's Makenzie Duford, who dropped to 6-2 with the complete-game loss. Maryville scored three runs in the third and three in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Emory got one back in its half of the fifth, but then the Scots answered with four runs in the sixth to put this one away.

Jenica Brown led the offense with a 3-for-4 effort and two runs scored. Sara Koonce, Bailey Myers, Annie Fowler and Emily Hill joined Dickinson with multiple hits. Koonce and Fowler both drove in three runs.

Maryville (7-7) wraps up its Spring Break swing through Georgia with another game against Emory (9-5). First pitch is 3 p.m.
