Maryville Completes Road Sweep of Emory

Scots Begin CCS Competition Against Berea on Saturday

ATLANTA – The Scots continued their winning ways on Thursday night, defeating Emory 5-3 for their second win in as many days against the Eagles.
 
Megan Ackerman picked up the win in the contest for the Scots. She pitched five innings, allowing three runs, one earned on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters. She improves to 3-5 on the season with a 2.64 ERA (18 ER/47.2 IP).
 
Emory kicked of the scoring in the game, picking up a lead in the second inning on a single from Natalie Swift.
 
The Scots would answer back quickly though, scoring three runs in the top of the third to take the lead. Brecca Williams came scored the first run for MC, hitting a triple and then scoring on the play due to a fielding error by the third baseman. Maryville would score two more runs in the inning, both off of an error.

Emory tied it up 3-3 in the bottom of the third, and it would remain there until the fifth inning. In the fifth, Annie Fowler would single in Jenica Brown for the winning run. Williams then drove in Emma Blankenship on a sacrifice fly in the sixth for, giving the Scots an insurance run heading into the final inning.
 
Chloe Boyd and Kennedy Henry each pitched scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh to shut down the Eagles and secure the victory for MC. Henry picked up her second save of the season in the outing.
 
Maryville returns home on Saturday for their CCS opening doubleheader against Berea. First pitch is at noon at the Maryville Softball Complex.
