Scots Sweep Past Berea

Maryville Opens CCS Play with Pair of Run-Rule Victories

MARYVILLE – Run rules were the theme of the day as Maryville opened Collegiate Conference of the South play with a pair of shortened shutout victories over Berea on Saturday.

The Scots took care of the Mountaineers 8-0 in the first game and 21-0 in the night cap. Both games were shorted to five innings by the run rule.

In Game 1, Bailey Myers had two of Maryville's seven hits, with two runs scored and two RBIs. She and Annie Fowler delivered RBI-doubles in Maryville's two-run third inning. Brecca Williams and Kaitlin Woodruff both tripled and scored.

Megan Ackerman allowed one hit over the five innings, with two strikeouts. She registered her third straight victory and improved to 4-5 on the season.

The second game saw a 14-hit attack from the Scots, who scored in all four at bats before the run-rule came into effect.

Cierra Hudson led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and a career-high four RBIs. Her three hits in one game also were a career high.

Williams, Myers, Sara Koonce, Emily Hill and Campbell White all had two hits for Maryville. Myers belted an RBI-triple and finished 4-for-7 in the doubleheader, while White came off the bench and went 2-for-2, reached base three times and scored twice.

Chloe Boyd earned the victory with two innings of one-hit relief. She is 2-0.

Maryville improved its winning streak to five games and its record to 10-7, while Berea slipped to 1-7.

The Scots play Wednesday at Birmingham-Southern (16-5) in a 1 p.m. Central time doubleheader. Maryville is home next Saturday against Huntingdon in a noon twin bill.
