HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Maryville picked up their first spring break victory on Tuesday, defeating Western Connecticut State 8-1 at the Hilton Head Beach Island Beach & Tennis Resort.
The Scots were dominant in today's matchup, sweeping the doubles portion of the match, and taking five of the six singles matches as well.
Jonathan Crane and
Jackson Meyer took the No. 1 doubles court, securing a strong 8-2 victory. The pair is now 5-3 as a duo this season.
Josh Fisher and
Kyle Shaver (No.2 doubles) and
Kaleb Burke and
Seth Green (No. 3 doubles) also picked up duos victories in the match.
Jonathan Crane made quick work of his opponent at No. 3 single. He finished first in the order of finish, picking up a point with victories of 6-2 and 6-1.
Kyle Shaver followed that up with a 6-4, 6-1 performance on the No. 2 singles court.
Sam Cocchia picked up a victory in his first match at No. 1 singles, defeating his opponent 6-0 and 7-5. No. 4 singles was
Jackson Meyer, who dominated his opponent 6-1, 6-0. Western Connecticut's only point came at No. 5 singles, where Caleb Harris defeated
Seth Green.
Ben Wyrick rounded out the lineup for Maryville, picking up the win at No. 6 singles with scores of 7-5 and 6-1. The Sophomore is now 2-0 on the season.
Maryville is back in action on Wednesday for its final spring break matchup in Hilton Head. The Scots face off against Stevenson at 8:30 a.m.
