KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville picked up a strong conference victory, 6-3 over CCS foe LaGrange on Saturday.
In order to avoid the strong winds outdoors, Maryville hosted the panther at the Goodfriend Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
Maryville's momentum began in the doubles portion of the match, picking up two of three duos matches early in the day. No. 2 duo
Kyle Shaver and
Josh Fisher picked up an 8-5 victory while No. 3
Sam Cocchia and
Seth Green recorded a decisive 8-1 to give the Scots the early lead.
"What an amazing win for our program! The first over LaGrange in school history," Maryville Head Coach
Doug Corbett said. "Getting the doubles lead was huge for momentum! Our No. 3 doubles Seth and Sam have been a strong spot for us. No. 2 doubles Kyle and Josh have really rounded into form recently."
On the Singles side, Maryville took four of the six matchups to round out their day.
Kyle Shaver played a strong match, defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Josh Fisher recorded another victory for MC, defeating Nic Bodin in three sets, by scores of 6-1, 3-6, and 6-4. Rounding out the Scots lineup was No. 5
Jackson Meyer who picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory and No. 6
Kaleb Burke who won 6-1 and 6-4.
"I am very proud of all of our guys for a great effort," Corbett said. "Their hard work and some lessons from close losses paid off today"
MC has improved to 5-8 on the season and 1-2 in the CCS.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday for a conference matchup against Huntingdon at 10 a.m.
