Maryville Celebrates Senior Day

Scots Fall 6-3 to Huntingdon in Blustery Conditions

MARYVILLE – Maryville celebrated Senior Day here Saturday, but the Scots couldn't cap the afternoon with a victory as Huntingdon prevailed 6-3.

The visiting Hawks won twice in doubles before Maryville salvaged one of the doubles points at No. 2. Jonathan Crane and Jackson Meyer teamed for an 8-5 victory to keep the deficit at just 2-1.

"We lost several deuce points at No. 3 doubles that could have made their match much more competitive," Scots head coach Doug Corbett said. "Jackson and JC got us a win in doubles to give us a fighting chance in singles."

Huntingdon won in straight sets at No. 3 singles but then Maryville answered with Kyle Shaver taking a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position. The Hawks closed out the match with three more wins before Kaleb Burke took the final point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 despite winds that reached over 30 miles per hour, with gusts better than 50 miles per hour. Not ideal tennis weather!

Kyle Shaver Senior Day

"The weather conditions in singles became increasingly challenging," Corbett said. "Great job by senior Kyle Shaver on his singles win!"

Senior Day festivities before the match saw the combined men's and women's team honoring seniors Shaver and Josh Fisher.

Josh Fisher Senior Day

Maryville falls to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in the Collegiate Conference of the South, while Huntingdon is now 3-6 and 2-0.

Maryville is back in action Friday at Centre and Saturday at Berea. The final home match of the spring is April 11 versus Johnson.

"There is a strong possibility we will see Huntingdon again in the conference tournament," Corbett said. "We are excited to keep getting better and be ready for that opportunity."
