MARYVILLE – Stellar doubles play wasn't quite enough as Maryville dropped a 7-2 decision to Brevard here Saturday afternoon.
The Scots won at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Katelyn Cook and
Elizabeth Shwaiko teamed for an 8-2 victory at No. 1, and then
Abby Diggs and
Abby Smither prevailed 8-5 at the No. 2 position.
Brevard then bounced back to claim all of the singles matches in straight sets. Cook put up a fight at No. 1 before falling 6-4, 7-5, and
Mandy Webb played tough at No. 5 before she went down 6-3, 6-4.
"It was a good effort by the women today," Maryville head coach
Doug Corbett said. "We played great in doubles! They wore us down a little in singles, but Brevard is a very solid team with the depth they have in their lineup."
Maryville is back in action Friday against Asbury in a dual match with the men's teams. Start time is 1 p.m.
