Maryville Rolls Past Columbia College

Scots Improve to 3-0 for Spring with 7-2 Triumph

MARYVILLE – Maryville made it three wins in three spring matches when the Scots knocked off Columbia College (South Carolina) 7-2 here Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Scots took the doubles portion of the match 2-1, with No. 1 duo Jonathan Crane and Jackson Meyer winning 8-3 for their fourth consecutive doubles victory. They are now 4-1 on the season. Josh Fisher and Seth Green teamed for an 8-2 triumph at No. 3, improving their doubles record to 2-1.
 
In singles, Columbia College took the No. 1 court with Waldo Bosch prevailing 6-1, 6-1 over Kyle Shaver. The rest of the way was all Scots.
 
Kaleb Burke made quick work at No. 5, breezing to a 6-0, 6-0 win that improved his season singles mark to 2-2. Meyer was next to finish at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Meyer now has a 3-1 record at the No. 4 singles position.
 
Sam Cocchia improved to 2-1 this season at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory, and Crane was close behind at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Crane is now 1-1 at No. 3 singles.

Ben Wyrick provided the last point with a three-set thriller at No. 6. Wyrick in his first singles match of the year rallied from a set down to win 2-6, 6-2 and 1-0, with that third-set tiebreaker finishing 13-11.
 
Maryville improved to 3-2 for the season, with Columbia College falling to 0-5.
 
The men's and women's teams head to Hilton Head, South Carolina, for Spring Break. The schedule starting Sunday looks like this:
 
Sunday vs. Cornell College, 9:30 a.m.
Monday vs. Loras, 9 a.m. (Men only)
Tuesday vs. Western Connecticut State, 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday vs. Stevenson, 6 p.m.
