DANVILLE, Ky. – Maryville on Friday played the first of back-to-back matches in Kentucky and suffered a 9-0 defeat to Centre.
The host Colonels won 8-5 and 8-3 at doubles, with the other match resulting in a forfeit because of Maryville's five-player roster at the moment.
In singles,
Elizabeth Shwaiko at No. 3 took her match to a third-set tiebreaker before she fell 10-8. She won the second set 7-6 (7-5). The four other matches were straight-set decisions for Centre, although Maryville did make the Colonels work.
Eliza Cheshire at No. 4 played tough in a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 defeat.
Centre with the victory improved to 8-6, while Maryville drops to 5-8.
The Scots return to Collegiate Conference of the South action Saturday at Berea. Start time is noon.
