Maryville College Alum Inducted This Year into CFB Hall of Fame

MARYVILLE – A Raycom Sports documentary featuring the life of Roy Kramer '51 airs Wednesday night on the SEC Network.

KramerKramer (wearing No. 39, back row, third from left, in the team photo above) is a distinguished Maryville College alum who this year was selected as part of the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class. He graduated from Maryville College in 1951, playing football for the Scots before his senior year was interrupted when called to serve during the Korean War.

The program, "Roy Kramer: A Vision for the SEC," airs Wednesday at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

It is a 30-minute show chronicling Kramer's life from growing up in Maryville to graduating from Maryville College to coaching Central Michigan to a national championship to his time as commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.

Included in the program are home movies from the family that show Kramer in his younger days with his parents and siblings. Raycom Sports came and shot footage of Kramer on Honaker Field. The documentary also explains why he is called the "Father of the Bowl Championship Series."

Kramer returned to Maryville to complete his degree before embarking on a wildly successful football coaching and administrative career. Among his many honors, Kramer was inducted into the Maryville College Athletics Wall of Fame in 2019.
