Scots Defeat Centre 2-0 on the Road

Putman Scores Team-High Third Goal of Season

MARYVILLE – Noah Putman continued his hot start to the season, scoring his third goal to lead Maryville to a 2-0 victory over Centre at the Bob Allen Nissan Classic in Danville, Kentucky.

Both Scots' goals came early in the contest, and MC's strong defense was able to hold the Colonels scoreless and preserve the victory. The Scots have now recorded shutouts in back-to-back games.

Putman's goal, his team-high third of the season, put Maryville ahead early in the contest. The senior defender now has his highest single-season goal total of his career, passing his previous high of two, set in 2021.

First-year Will Brush recorded his first collegiate assist on the goal.

Craig McIlwraith followed up with a goal of his own later in the first half to put the Scots ahead 2-0 before the second half.

Centre outshot Maryville 8-6 but the Scots had the advantage in shots on goal, 5-4. McIlwraith led the way with four shot attempts.

Goalkeeper Mykal Manfred recorded four saves on the way to his second shutout of the season.

MC went 2-0 at the Bob Allen Nissan Classic. Following the conclusion of the tournament, Noah Putman, Will Brush, Jorge Graniel and Hyatt McDonald were named to the All-Tournament Team.

"Playing 3 games in 4 days and 5 in 8 days all on the road is so difficult," head coach Pepe Fernandez. "To do that and win one of the top tournaments in the region is a pretty special weekend."

Maryville is back on the pitch Wednesday for a road matchup against in-state rival Sewanee. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central.
