SEWANEE, Tenn. – Two early second-half goals secured a 2–2 draw against Sewanee in the final game of Maryville's season-opening road trip.
The first half was mostly quiet, but Sewanee was able to take the lead right before the half on a 43rd-minute penalty kick goal from David Edge.
Maryville wasted no time in the second half, tying the game 1-1 on a 50th-minute goal from
Brooklyn Muccillo, Assisted by McWilliams.
For Muccillo, this was his second goal of the season. McWilliams also recorded his second assist of the year on the play.
The Scots would strike again just five minutes later, with
Hyatt MacDonald finding the back of the net in the 55th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
Walker Settles recorded his first career assist on the goal.
MacDonald is now tied with
Noah Putman for the team lead in goals scored with three.
Maryville would hold the lead until the 71st minute, but the Tiger's Tyler Scott would score his second goal of the year and tie the game at 2-2, where it would remain through the end of the contest.
Goalkeeper
Mykal Manfred recorded a season-high 11 saves on the day.
"The boys showed a lot of heart and effort coming from behind tonight to get a tough draw on the road," head coach
Pepe Fernandez said. "Six games in a row on the road is difficult for any team."
Sewanee outshot the Scots 23-7 and had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
"Sewanee is one of the most difficult places in the country to play, and the quality of the Sewanee team adds to the difficulty of the situation," Fernandez said. "I'm very proud of the result and the effort."
Maryville returns home for its first home games of the season, hosting the Maryville College Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday. Maryville takes on Mount St. Joseph on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and then Averett on Saturday at 6 p.m.
