MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Maryville opened its 2023-24 season on the road with a 9-0 loss to Freed-Hardeman in Murfreesboro on Wednesday.
The Scots lost all three doubles matches by scores of 8-1, 8-1, and 8-2.
In singles play,
James Smith was competitive on the No. 1 court, falling in two sets by a score of 6-4 in each.
Newcomer
Gabriel Villalonga Serra put up a good fight on the No. 4 court in his first collegiate match. The first year from Spain stumbled in the first set, falling 6-1 but would rally back in the second set, bringing the frame to 6-6 before falling in the tiebreaker.

Kaleb Burke were the other four singles players for the Scots in their first match of the season.
MC is off for a couple of weeks as they prepare to host their lone home match of the Fall season. The Scots will face off against Johnson on Tuesday, October 17 at the MC Tennis Courts. Opening serves are scheduled for 3 p.m.
