MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Maryville went on the road Saturday and swept a Collegiate Conference of the South tri-match against host Huntingdon and Wesleyan.
The Scots knocked off Huntingdon 3-2, winning 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22 and 16-14. In the 3-0 victory against Wesleyan, the set scores were 25-14, 25-10 and 25-16.
"Yeah, such a tough first match," Maryville interim head coach
Brienna Laskowski said. "We didn't play our cleanest volleyball, but the girls stayed focused on our side of the net. If one of our girls made a mistake, that same athlete would respond with a huge kill or block the very next play.
"We talk a lot about being resilient both physically and mentally, and today they were just that."
Against Huntingdon,
Landry Frisch posted a .325 attack percentage with 16 kills and just three errors. The junior chipped in with 20 digs for a double-double.
Addie Smith added a triple-double with 14 kills, 20 assists and 15 digs.
Dakota Vaiese finished with a double-double of 16 assists and 16 digs.
Ally Sokolow was the digs leader with 30.
Saturday's 3-2 result against Huntingdon was Maryville's third consecutive five-set match in the regular season against the Hawks.
Frisch against Wesleyan attacked at a .400 percentage with a team-high seven kills.
Kenzie Brewster added six kills, as did
Hannah Kammer. Vaiese posted 21 assists to go with a team-leading eight digs.
Maryville with the victories completed a 3-0 week and improved to 4-1 in CCS play. This on the heels of a tough home defeat at the hands of Piedmont last weekend.
"They have approached every new concept and drill in practice with an open mind, and we're seeing some really nice growth in a lot of our athletes," Laskowski said. "They prepared really well and got themselves in a very good place mentally to be able to handle business this week."
The Scots are back in action Tuesday at first-place Covenant, which is 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCS. Start time is 6:30 p.m.
