Lee, Smoot Propel Scots to Victory

Pair of Former CCS Player of the Year Honorees Record Braces Against Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sierra Lee and Hannah Smoot recorded braces Saturday afternoon as Maryville's high-powered offense took down Huntingdon 6-2 in Alabama.

The pair of former CCS Players of the Year (Lee in 2022 and Smoot in 2023) combined for four of the Scots (9-2-4, 6-0-0 CCS) six goals in the contest.

Lee got MC on the board first, opening the scoring with a 10th-minute goal on an assist from Elle Fair. Smoot scored just three minutes later, on an unassisted goal in the 13th minute to make it 2-0.

Huntingdon got on the board in the 28th minute, as Shaylinn McFarland blasted in a goal on an assist from Keabetsoe Walker.

Smoot scored again in the 35th minute to extend the lead before Lee finished her brace on a goal in the 45th minute. The Scots led 4-1 heading into the half with all four goals coming from the Scots dynamic duo.

Lee leads the Scots with 11 goals on the season while Smoot is right behind her with nine of her own. They both have three assists as well, putting them at 25 and 21 points, respectively.

Anne Marie Konieczny kicked off the second-half scoring, putting Maryville ahead 5-1 with a 64th goal. Annabelle Procter wrapped up the MC scoring effort, finding the net in the 74th minute. Both Konieczny and Procter have two goals this season.

Huntingdon scored again in the 79th minute, bringing the match to its final score of 6-2. Once again it was McFarland, who became the third player in the contest to record a brace. Angelina Mazza recorded an assist on the goal.

Maryville outshot the Hawks 26-5, including an 18-4 margin in shots on goal. The Scots 18 shots on goal are their third most this season, behind matches against Agnes Scott (34) and Wesleyan (23).

MC also had an advantage in corner kick opportunities, taking 11 corners to the Hawks five.

Maryville returns home Wednesday night for a match against Asbury at the MC Soccer Complex. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
