MARYVILLE – Maryville's
Brady Hammer carried his first-year momentum right into the postseason by earning Collegiate Conference of the South Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year honors from the league coaches.
Â
Hammer was named CCS Rookie of the Week for five of the nine weeks of the 2024 season, including the last three in a row and four of the last five. He finished 10th in the league in goals and assists, but as the top first-year player in both categories. His five goals led the Scots, and his three assists ranked second.
Â
Hammer tied
Craig McIlwraith for the team lead with 13 points.
Â
McIlwraith and
Will Gallaher were All-CCS Second Team selections. McIlwraith scored in each of Maryville's final two regular season wins, at Huntingdon and Piedmont, to lift the Scots into a fourth-place finish and hosting duties in the CCS Tournament quarterfinals. His five assists led the team and tied for second in the league, and his four goals were second to Hammer on the team.
Â
Gallaher guided the Maryville defense to 1.53 goals allowed per game, a figure that drops to 1.14 in conference play. That ranked fourth in the league and the Scots rallied to take the fourth spot in the regular season standings. The sophomore defender added his only goal of the season as part of Maryville's crucial 2-1 win at Piedmont this past Friday.
Â
In addition, the Scots coaching staff nominated
Nic Prins to be a member of the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team. Prins was one of three Scots to start all 17 regular season matches.
