MARYVILLE—
Delaney Muldoon scored a natural hat trick and the Maryville Scots surged past Wesleyan 9-0. Muldoon netted her goals in the 2nd, 14th, and 15th minutes to spark a seven goal first half.
"Delaney stepped up today, giving us three big goals in the first minutes," Scots head coach
Pepe Fernandez said. "Anytime you can get a shutout and a conference win, you take it and run with it."
Sierra Lee,
Grace McDonald, and
Avery Brown also joined in on the first-half frenzy.
Lee's goal came in the 34th minute on a pass from
Grace McDonald into the box, where Lee got her foot on it and tapped the ball in.
McDonald followed three minutes later, scoring on a penalty kick into the top right corner.
Brown ended the half with back-to-back goals, one in the 38th minute from 15 yards out, and the other on an assist from freshman
Maya Baggett, who found Brown at the baseline. Brown dribbled it in for the goal in the 45th minute.
Baggett was among a multitude of young Scots who made an impact.
"We've got a lot of younger players who haven't played much, but we know they're really good. They just needed the minutes," Fernandez said. "Getting them in was important for the future of the program, and they showed very well today."
Maryville added two more goals late in the second half: one from
Madison McDonald in the 80th minute and another from
Ellie Schuld, who launched a 35-yard shot with two seconds left.
Maryville improved it's record to 6-1-4 and 3-0 in conference play. The Scots are back in action Thursday in Decatur, Georgia, against Agnes Scott in a 5:30 p.m. showdown.
