Scots Can’t Fry Berry’s Momentum

Kitchen Scores 10; Exhibition at Eastern Kentucky Next

DANVILLE, Ky. – Maryville faced future conference opponent Berry on Day 2 of the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic, but the Scots couldn't quite find the recipe for success, falling to the Vikings 88-59.

The Scots are 1-2 in the series, with a 68-55 loss last season and a 69-68 win in the 2011-12 season.

Maryville started strong, keeping the game crispy in the first quarter, only trailing 24-20. After that, however, Berry turned up the heat, outscoring the Scots 25-15 in the second quarter. From there, the Vikings came out of the half rolling, widening the lead with an 11-point third-quarter advantage. MC fought back in the fourth, being only outscored by four points.

Rookie Halle Kitchen was the lone Scot to record double digits, with 10. Behind her was a three-piece combo of Ella Haney, Ella Tharpe, and Kadence Stoner, all scoring eight.

Tharpe and Emily Allen led the team with five rebounds, keeping Maryville in the mix under the basket.

Maryville, now 0-2, looks to rebound with an exhibition Wednesday against Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m., before hosting Sewanee for their home opener Monday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
