BEREA, Ky. – Maryville stepped into the Division I ranks Wednesday and dropped an exhibition game to Eastern Kentucky. The Colonels won 101-25 in a contest played on the Berea College campus.
Maryville's early season leading scorer,
Ella Haney, paced the Scots with 10 points, while
Olivia Cathers scored seven in her return to the Bluegrass. Cathers hails from nearby Lexington.
The Colonels, who by NCAA rules get to count this as an official game, improved to 5-3 on the season after shooting a season-high 57.6 percent from the floor. They outrebounded the Scots 48-26 and forced Maryville into 34 turnovers.
The Scots did force 18 EKU turnovers and made 12 steals. Cathers had three steals and there were two each from
Ella Tharpe,
Halle Kitchen and
Emily Allen.
Maryville is back in action Monday at home against Sewanee (2-4). Tipoff is 7 p.m.
