MARYVILLE – It's a double-double for the Maryville Scots! Maryville claimed its second consecutive Collegiate Conference of the South championship with a win over Belhaven Saturday afternoon.
Â
It's the second year in a row that the Scots have swept both regular season CCS matches and the CCS Tournament.
"To be at home for these championships, it's everything," said Scots head coach
Pepe Fernandez. "Especially against a team that plays on turf. Being home is big and what these women did going through the season undefeated and then winning the tournament, it is just amazing on their part."
Maryville and Belhaven were tied at the end of the first forty-five minutes, but an early goal in the second half put the Scots on top, and they never looked back.
"The first half was not our best half, but then the second half we played much better and created some good chances," said Fernandez. "And we probabley held them to one or two real chances the whole game."
Katie Corley tapped in the game winner in the 48
th minute.
Avery Brown dribbled forward right of goal placing the perfect centering pass in front, where Corley one-timed it into the net from 5 yards out.
Â
"The only thing I was thinking of was drive it down the line, try a hopeful ball for a cross in, and it worked," said Brown. "My great teammate, Katie, scored. I wasn't sure if anyone was going to get on there, but she did. I'm so proud of this team and I'm so proud of her. She did a great job."

Brown Earns MVP Honors
Brown took home MVP honors after an impressive tournament run. In addition to today's assist, Brown had one shot and two assists in the semifinal game versus Asbury. Â
"She was spectacular," said Fernandez. "You start thinking about all the tournament games and all the things that we have played over the years. And that performance she had the other night, the assist she had the other day – they were spectacular. I mean, she was just electric."
