ATLANTA – Maryville closed out the Emory Classic on Saturday with losses to a pair of ranked opponents, No. 14 Washington & Lee and No. 5 Emory.
Maryville kept it competitive in the opener against the Generals, losing the first two frames 25-15 and 25-8. The Scots' lone set win came in the third set by a 25-23 count. That set saw nine ties and two lead changes, with Cailin Mastropasqua contributing eight kills.
The Generals then closed the door on the Scots with a 28-26 victory in the fourth set.
Against Emory, Maryville fell in three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-17. The Scots' only lead of the match was 2-1 in the first.
Landry Frisch paced the team with 10 kills, while Ashley Hilbelink had 14 digs.
Maryville (21-11, 12-3) now turns its attention to the CCS Tournament, where it begins play in the semifinals Friday against the winner of Tuesday's match between Covenant and Piedmont.
