SALEM, Va. – In the calendar year 2024 finale, Maryville could not find its rhythm against Ferrum and lost 61-38 at the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic.
MC struggled to find the basket, shooting 28.3 percent from the field and 6.3 percent from three. The Scots scored 15 points in the first half on 7-of-23 shooting. Maryville scored more in the second half, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Panthers, who improved to 6-4 on the season.
Both quarters in the second half saw more points scored, giving Maryville a bright spot heading into 2025.
For Maryville, sophomore forward
Kadence Stoner scored in double digits in back-to-back games, totaling 22 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists for the two games in Virginia. Her 10 points in the game marked her second-highest total for the season, topped only by her 12-point performance against Roanoke on Sunday. Stoner shot 83.3 percent from the field on 5-of-6 shooting to lead the Scots in scoring. For her efforts, Stoner was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Ella Haney totaled eight points for Maryville with two steals.
The Scots forced 22 turnovers with 10 steals and outrebounded Ferrum on the offensive glass 11-4. It is the fourth time this season that they have forced their opponents into 20-plus turnovers and the fifth time with double-digit steals in a game.
Next up for head coach
Darrin Travillian's squad is a game against Wesleyan on Jan. 7 in the Cooper Athletic Center to begin conference play. The Scots then face Warren Wilson on Jan. 8 at home in a doubleheader with the men's team.
