Cloninger Crowned CCS Rookie of the Week

Morristown Frosh Continues to Impress in Many Areas

CCS Release

MARYVILLE –
Maryville's Kyle Cloninger played a key role in the team's Cregger Invitational championship run, contributing across the board in two victories. For that effort, he earns his third Collegiate Conference of the South Rookie of the Week honor of the 2024-25 season.

The first-year guard averaged 9.5 points on 53.8 percent shooting in the two games, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 at the free-throw line. The Morristown product also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and committed just one turnover in 64 minutes of play.

Maryville rallied in both games to capture the Cregger crown. The Scots finished on an 18-4 run against Susquehanna to win 70-66 in Sunday's semifinals. Monday afternoon was a carbon copy, as Maryville outscored the host Maroons 19-4 – including a 10-0 finish – down the stretch to rally past Roanoke 83-79.

Maryville improved to 8-4 for the season heading into one final pre-CCS game against Warren Wilson. That contest takes place Jan. 8 as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. Tipoff for the women's game is 5 p.m., with the men to follow.
