CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Maryville bounced back from a tough Saturday to handle Johnson & Wales of North Carolina by an 8-1 score Sunday afternoon.
The Scots swept the doubles matches, with
Abby Diggs and
Mandy Webb blanking the Johnson & Wales pair 8-0.
Mia Brown and
Elizabeth Shwaiko teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, and
Katelyn Cook and
Alyssa Smith did the same at the No. 2 position.
Shwaiko walked over her opponent at No. 2 singles by a 6-0, 6-0 score line. Diggs had an easy time at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Diggs is riding a three-match winning streak and stands 3-1 at the No. 4 position.
Smith posted a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. She also stands 3-1 in dual matches, including a 1-1 record at the No. 3 slot. Cook at No. 1 and Brown at No. 5 also registered strong wins for the Scots, who improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the spring.
Maryville is back in action Saturday at Belhaven in the Collegiate Conference of the South opener. Start time is 1 p.m. Central. The Scots then play Sunday at Millsaps in an 11 a.m. Central time start.
The home opener is March 6 against Brevard at 2 p.m.
