MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Maryville Scots opened their spring schedule with an 8-1 loss at Pfeiffer on Saturday.
Abby Diggs earned the lone Scots point at No. 4 singles, prevailing 6-3, 6-4. Elizabeth Shwailo competed at No. 2 singles before falling 6-4, 6-2.
Katelyn Cook,
Mia Brown and
Mandy Webb all claimed a pair of games in their matches.
In doubles, Brown and Shwaiko won a pair of games at No. 1, with Cook and
Alyssa Smith pulling out one game at the No. 2 position.
"We had the first-match jitters in some spots," Maryville head coach
Doug Corbett said. "Combine that with playing a good team and these doubles results can happen.
"There are a lot of lessons we can take from this match and apply them going forward. Singles was a much better effort, and we look forward to carrying that momentum into Sunday."
Maryville next takes on Johnson & Wales in Charlotte, North Carolina. Start time Sunday is 11 a.m.
