Maryville Makes It 3 in a Row

Ackerman, Dickinson Earn Victories in Sweep at Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Don't look now but the Maryville Scots have their longest winning streak of the season!

Maryville took a Tuesday pair from Southern Virginia, winning 6-0 and 7-2 behind solid pitching and timely hitting. The Scots have three wins in a row for the first time in 2024, and they also have a 3-1 record thus far on their Spring Break trek through Virginia.

Megan Ackerman and Tia Stewart combined for a three-hit shutout in the first game, with Paige Dickinson and Mikayla Hoschak pitching the Scots to victory in the nightcap. Ackerman gave up just two hits over her five innings, improving to 7-2 on the season and lowering her ERA to 1.65. Stewart covered the final two innings and allowed just one hit.

In the second game, Dickinson evened her record at 1-1 with four innings of shutout ball. She allowed just one hit and struck out two. Hoschak pitched the final three innings and gave up one earned run on six hits to record her second save of the season.

Campbell White and Bailey Myers had three hits apiece in the doubleheader to pace the offense. White was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two driven in. Her two RBIs came on a double down the left field line to cap the scoring in Game 1. Myers also drove in two in the first game, finishing the day 3-for-7 with a run scored and three driven in.

Brecca Williams scored three runs Tuesday to give her 20 for the season. That leads the team and ranks second in the conference. Cierra Hudson scored twice and drove in two, pushing her RBI total to 11 to rank second on the squad.

Courtney Baine was 2-for-3 for the day, Ava Whitmire 2-for-4 and Haynie Jane Gilstrap 2-for-6.

Maryville, now 12-6, wraps up Virginia Week with a noon doubleheader Wednesday at Randolph (2-6). The Scots open CCS play Saturday at Berea in a 1 p.m. twin bill.
